About this Event

Exploring the intersection between Design and Construction in Schools

One of the main tenets of Green Building is Integrated Design.  How does that look in school construction?  Join us for a panel discussion of the opportunities and challenges  with the intersection between Design and Construction of a school.  Hear from the architecture, construction, and building commissioning sides about things that have worked well and things that can be improved.  Notes will be taken in an effort to develop this into a white paper on Integrated School Design.

This is part of our Green Schools Leadership Coalition series: "Intersections," in which we're exploring the intersections between the 4 areas of school construction: Design, Construction, Operations, and Occupants.

Speakers:

Christopher Green,  IBI Group

David MacLean, Building Commissioner with McMac Commissioning Services, LLC

David MacLean is Vice President of McMac Commissioning Services and is focused on solutions that serve our community.  After twelve years of service as an Army Officer, David took his Environmental Engineering and construction knowledge and set out to improve how energy consuming systems within the built environment were designed, constructed, operated and maintained.

A LEED Accredited Professional since 2004, David uses “above minimum code” voluntary rating systems to help owners optimize building operations and maintenance, assist engineering firms in equipment and system evaluation and collaborate with contractors to verify system performance.

As Vice President of McMac Commissioning Service, LLC (McMac Cx) David assembles the best fit of, professionals, services, solutions and tools that allow building owners to operate efficient buildings, while simultaneously providing third-party verification, through instantaneous and transparent technology portals, that the spaces in which we live, work, play, worship and learn are healthy and maximized for our productivity potential.

David understands that we are not solely designing and constructing buildings to accommodate highly efficient equipment and systems.  Our focus must be on making that building home to highly efficient, healthy, happy and productive communities.

Brian Mahoney is an engineer with more than 10 years of project managements experience in multiple delivery methods including CMAR (Construction Manager At Risk) and Design Build.  He has led multiple projects in the Houston area including HISD's Milby High School.
